2017 Taylor Fladgate Vintage Port
Like having the opportunity to drive a Mazzerati, witnessing the London Philharmonic perform or dining at one of the world’s greatest restaurants, to experience tasting this recent masterpiece is truly in the same classification. Young, tight, elegant, racy, rich, dense, luscious and seductive are just a few of the descriptives that came to mind from my first sip. A huge bouquet floral nose quickly took backseat to the rich blackberry, black currant and burnt cherry fruit. Soon to follow was the essence of fresh roasted coffee beans, dark chocolate, cigar smoke and the long medium-sweet tannins that should temper with age. I concur with the wine press giving high praise and even higher ratings to this classic, that by all standards, should be bought and cellared for at least the next 10 years. With full maturity projected to happen somewhere within our lifetime, a cold evening, a good book, some soft music and a bottle of this estate beauty have all the earmarks of heaven on earth.
