2015 Darioush Signature Cabernet Sauvignon
When it comes to red wine in the United States, Cabernet Sauvignon is king. From the thousands of different producers to choose from, they range from drinkable to ultra premium, from inexpensive to obscenely ridiculous in price. Then there is “the cult” category. Hard to find, expensive, the ones everyone wishes they could just taste a glass of. No need to mortgage the farm or waste your time looking for that needle in a haystack when you can get a Cabernet just as good as the cultsters at a non-cult price. Darioush has been near the top of my list for many years and never cease to over deliver in flavor, price and quality. The 2015 shows plenty of dark plum, blackberry, black currant and cherry fruit along with a treasure trove of nuances that keep on rewarding. Touches of cinnamon, nutmeg, dark chocolate, sweet tobacco and traces of oak are but a few of its qualities that make this wine so rich, plush and exotic. A combination of Mount Veeder and Napa Valley fruit, there are small percentages of Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot added to make this so special, the devil himself would sell his soul for the opportunity to sample. Still young and approachable, this gem will easily sing it’s praises for the next 5, 10 and even 20 years.
