2020 Maple Springs Gruner Veltliner Unique European varietals are springing up in vineyards throughout the United States but one from the hills of Eastern Pennsylvania was quite a surprise. Lively pear, apricot, Fuji apple, green melon and lime fruit explode on the palate while the black licorice and clean lanolin smooth texture add perfumed notes to this refreshing white. Quite richer than it’s Austrian counterpart, it’s refreshing quality and balanced acidity make it a perfect match for various cheeses and light chicken and fowl dishes.

1996 Chateau St. Jean Cinq Cepages Tasting the Classics……. Wine of the Year upon it’s release, this classic is at its peak of a winning winning formula. There is so much flavor, from plums to blackberries, leather, truffles, violets, herbs, all blended so harmoniously, it is as much a joy to sniff as it is to drink. I might have thought after 26 years it may not have held up, but to my surprise, it was one of the best wines I have enjoyed this year. If you have one in your cellar, take my advise: drink it a day early rather than holding on to it and drinking it a day late.

2019 Torbreck “The Steading”
The grapes for this wine were sourced from Grenache, Mataro and Shiraz vines that survived the worldwide phylloxera outbreak of the 1880s, and a century later, the vine-pull scheme in the Barossa in the 1980s. The wine is a result of the serendipitous discovery of small remnant patches of...
2020 Russell B Gregory Sauvignon Blanc
A wild mix of vibrant fruit flavors that seems to emit a new profile with each new sip. Key lime, grapefruit, green melon, tangerine and pear fruit shine as notes of lemongrass and wild honey coat the palate all the way through its grassy and tart/sweet fruit finish. Sourced...
2018 Maple Springs Pinot Noir
It’s not often that I get to sample wines from different parts of the US besides the biggies of CA, WA, OR or my home state of MI. A good friend in Pennsylvania offered me a few select varietals from a vineyard Berks County in Eastern PA and came...
1990 Gaja Sori Tildin
Tasting the Classics. Back when I bought this gem for a fraction of what you can get it for today, it was suggested waiting 15 years before opening. I awoke the savage beast from it’s hibernation and a world of flavors and aromas surged forth. Black cherry, plum, vanilla,...
2018 Blackbird Arise Red Blend
Not only is the price of gas at an all time high, Napa Cabernet’s and blends are not too far behind. But when you discover an affordable hidden gem that tastes better than some 90% of the overpriced wannabes, time to run, not walk, to seek and enjoy. This...
2015 Begali Lorenzo Ripasso
The old adage “Good things come to those who wait” hits the nail on the head for this Classico Superiore from the Veneto region of Italy. When purchased 5 years ago, in its youth it tasted a little rough around the edges but I knew that the building blocks...
1975 Muga Prado Enea Grand Reserva
A Tasting the Classics treat. This Spanish version of drinking a First Growth Bordeaux or a Grand Cru Burgundy is quite amazing for its age. This was terrior at it’s finest with huge earthy flavors, dried rustic cherry, prune, leather, tea, and black truffles exuding new aromas as it...
2020 Gerard Bertrand Cote des Rose’
Excellent Any time!...
